Notices :

The book begins in the Middle Ages. A young servant fled, taking to save the two children of his master who, themselves, will perish at the stake, accused of being devils. And it is with their descendants that the story will take shape today.
After this very catchy beginning, the story will focus on Joe who also will be given to foreigners by his mother who flees to turn those who persecute. Alas, the family "chosen" does not give the child a living dream. Beaten, bullied, humiliated, he is a young man who broke the meet which will reveal its true nature.

Eroïne Devalda First novel, "The children of evil" is quite uneven. The first part focuses on Joe, his childhood and all the ordeals. It's a hard story, but nothing has been spared the young man, and nothing is spared his ordeal. I was very surprised by the extreme violence contained in this part, that makes me say that this book is not to put all hands. Despite some inconsistencies and sometimes rather clumsy writing, the reader is referred to the guts and can not hold to love Joe, who feel not let go, even in the second half. This famous second part is marked by the arrival of Amber, the French correspondent. Joe is as much endearing, as Amber has nothing to please, arrogant and cruel, it will eventually lead our hero in his fall. And indeed, this part is too fast. It happens too much, too fast, and the end is quickly shipped by comparing the time taken to develop the personality of Joe. This is where it's a little disappointing, the reader remains unsatisfied, the events would have deserved to be further exploited, as the personality of Amber, who also returned the antipathy from the start, n ' is addressed only superficially.
In the end this second part tarnishes a bit more than positive impression left by the first, when I was really captivated.

With this novel, Eroïne Devalda demonstrates a real ability to snap his readers, but does not carry through. His style lacks a bit of maturity, while these words do not, which reinforces the ambivalence of the whole story.
One writer to follow, with the experience that will succeed, I think, to erase his weaknesses and we propose a narrative constructed and thrilling from beginning to end.
